Library Manager & School Archivist Mrs Onions and Library Volunteer Angela Prior made a Heritage Lottery bid on behalf of students Alice & Isabel and were delighted to announce they had been successful in doing so. The grant of £9,900,00 helped deliver a project to continue research into the First World War using local resources including Blenheim Palace and the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum. The aim was to create small exhibitions in local venues, deliver a programme of workshops and events, including a Family History session at the school and to set up a website to share the research.

The project came about after the opportunity to visit the Battlefields with the award-winning programme ‘110 Legacy’ delivered by the UCL Institute of Education and Equity.

Commenting on the award, students, Alice and Isabel said: “We’re delighted that we’ve received this support thanks to National Lottery players, it is vital that we continue to pay our respects to the fallen. The Britain of today is the legacy of the men and women who served their nation, and should be remembered not just in our heads but in our hearts.”
